When we decided to buy a home in Linton Crest we knew that a community pool and clubhouse were not available. We heard that many of the neighboring pools allowed homeowners from other communities to join their pool for a fee. We were OK with that since my sister was adding a pool at the time and there are three community pools within walking distance. As the kids have grown we realized it would be nice to have a place for them to swim. We then heard about all the communities that have swim teams and swim lessons for a great price.
My wife debated what swim team to join. Kingsbrooke's pool is very close and easy to get to from our home, we can walk or bike there within minutes. But, most of the children from that community go to Bristow Run Elementary School. Bridlewood community clubhouse and pool are also close but we do drive there. The benefit of that pool is that all the children who live there also go to Piney Branch Elementary School. At our first practice, we saw many familiar faces which is comforting for my kids who were a little nervous starting a new activity with lots of kids. It was a great decision to join Bridlewood's swim team called "Bridlewaves." The first swim meet was a home meet against Kingsbrooke. We didn't win but everyone gave it their all!
The coaches are all high school and college students who have lots of spirit, patience with the kids and energy to get them all involved in spirit nights, pep rallies that are like a big party on Friday evenings and other games and activities.
It is great sport for kids and we don't feel we are missing anything by not having a pool in our own community. We are looking forward to the rest of the season and will update with all the fun and stats!
