1. VA Playmakers (Manassas, VA)


VA Playmakers have been a top team in the NOVA area for years. They have been competing in the Under Armour Rise Circuit, which is one of the most prominent circuits for helping players get seen and recruited by college coaches, while also giving them great experience against other top players looking to play at the next level.


A great thing about this organization is its social media. They do a great job promoting their players by posting constantly on Twitter and Instagram, and Coach Ardi does everything she can to help promote players to college coaches. Many players who have played for the Playmakers now compete at the Division I level, along with other levels of college basketball.


They have teams starting as young as 9U all the way up to 17U. This is a great organization for both younger and older players because they also put a strong emphasis on skill development, focusing on helping every player improve and reach their full potential.


2. Virginia Elite (Reston, VA)


Virginia Elite, like the Playmakers, also plays on the UA Circuit and does a great job promoting its players on social media. They have had many players go on to play at the college level, including Division I programs. They offer teamsfor a variety of age groups and also have girls teams that compete on the UA Circuit.


The organization takes the development of its girls program seriously by helping players improve their skills while also giving them exposure through social media and high-level competition. Since opening in 2008, Virginia Elite has remained one of the most recognized and respected AAU basketball organizations in Northern Virginia, consistently developing players and helping them reach the next level.


3. Team Takeover – Team Durant – DC Premier


The reason I am putting all three of these teamstogether is because they are some of the most elite AAU programs you can find in the country. However, they are also a decent bit outside of NOVA, with Team Takeover and DC Premier being in DC and Team Durant being in Maryland.


These teams compete at the highest level and will get players seen on the national stage more than almost any other teams in the area. Team Takeover, for example, won the 17U Peach Jam a couple of years ago, which is the biggest tournament an AAU team can win.


I would only recommend these teams if you are already a very high-level player because, if you are not, you likely will not get much playing time or many opportunities to show your abilities.


4. Bayou Elite (Woodbridge, VA)


Bayou Elite is a relatively newer organization that has been around since around 2019. Bayou is great at developing players because they play a more free, fast-paced style of basketball. They emphasize playing fast and being physical.


Also, if a player is on a younger team, they have no problem bringing them up to an older age group if it can help both the player and the team. Rather than keeping players strictly within their age group, they focus on giving them opportunities to compete at a higher level and gain valuable game experience whenever they are ready.


The program is run by a small group of good coaches who will do anything they can to help their players develop. If you are in the Woodbridge area, I recommend checking out Bayou Elite, especially if you are a younger player looking to improve your game through real game situations.


5. Nova Cavs (Fairfax, VA)
Nova Cavs have been one of Northern Virginia’s more established AAU basketball organizations for years. The program has built a strong reputation by emphasizing player development, fundamentals, and team basketball. One thing that stands out is their very structured offensive system, where players are taught to make the right reads, move the ball, and play within the offense rather than relying on isolation basketball. Their teams regularly compete in high-level tournaments throughout the region, giving players the opportunity to face strong competition while continuing to improve. With experienced coaches, multiple age groups, and a focus on preparing athletes for the next level, Nova Cavs remain a solid option for players looking for long-term development.

Many people view Katrina’s as some of the most authentic Greek food you can find in Northern Virginia, which is one of the reasons it has built such a strong reputation over the years.

My personal favorite item on the menu is the souvlaki with fries on the side. The portions are more than enough to fill you up, and the quality of the food keeps me coming back. The desserts are also very good and are a great way to finish off your meal. Some of the traditional Greek desserts they offer include baklava, galaktoboureko, and house-made rice pudding. These desserts help add to the authentic Greek dining experience and are a great way to end your meal.
2.Taverna Cretekou (Alexandria, VA)

Taverna Cretekou is a completely family-owned restaurant that has been open since 1973. One reason people like this restaurant so much is the atmosphere. They have a beautiful outdoor patio that makes you feel like you’re eating at a taverna in Greece. The staff is very friendly, and they frequently have live music and traditional Greek dancing that adds to the experience.

Of course, the food is also very authentic and highly rated by customers. If you are looking for a restaurant that truly feels like a Greek taverna you would find in Greece, with dancing, live music, a great outdoor and indoor atmosphere, and authentic Greek food, I would definitely recommend Taverna Cretekou.


3. Greek Unique (Ashburn, VA)

Greek Unique is what I would consider a hidden gem located in Ashburn, Virginia. Like the name suggests, it is a unique type of place that serves Greek food with a twist. Their specialty is Greek fusion, where they take traditional Greek flavors and ingredients and put a unique spin on classic American dishes, sandwiches, and other favorites. It may sound a bit odd, but I have never seen anything bad about this place. Nearly every review I have come across says the food is delicious, keeps people coming back, and is regarded as some of the best Greek food in Northern Virginia.

This restaurant is more casual than the other two on this list. You order at the register, and many customers choose to get takeout. Despite the more casual setting, the quality of the food has earned it a strong reputation among locals

If you are looking for a more casual restaurant with some of the best-tasting Greek food in Northern Virginia, Greek Unique is definitely a place worth trying.


4.Plaka Grill (Falls Church, VA)


Plaka Grill is well known for one main reason. It is often mentioned that they might have the best gyros in all of Northern Virginia. Along with that, many customers also say that their souvlaki sandwich is top-notch, while also offering generous portions at a reasonable price.

Plaka Grill is also known as one of the best fast-casual Greek restaurants in Northern Virginia. In addition to their gyros and souvlaki, people frequently rave about their feta fries, Greek salads, and platters.

The restaurant is not the biggest place, but it is a nice smaller restaurant with a casual atmosphere. It is located in a great area of Falls Church with plenty of shops, restaurants, and things to do nearby if you want something else to do after your meal.


5.Our Mom Eugenia (Great Falls, Mosaic District, & Shirlington)

Our Mom Eugenia is one of the most popular Greek restaurants in Northern Virginia. The original Great Falls location opened in 2016, followed by the Mosaic District location in 2020. In 2023, the family opened a third location in Shirlington, bringing their authentic Greek cuisine to even more people throughout the region. All three locations are owned and operated by the same family.

The restaurant is known for its Greek home-style cooking. Some of its most popular dishes include the grilled octopus appetizer, moussaka, and Arni Giouvetsi, along with homemade desserts such as baklava, galaktoboureko, and rice pudding. The menu offers a wide variety of traditional Greek dishes that keep customers coming back.

People who eat here often praise the atmosphere and beautiful interior design. The restaurants have a warm and welcoming feel while still offering a more upscale dining experience than many other Greek restaurants in Northern Virginia. The Mosaic and Shirlington locations also feature outdoor patio seating, making them great places to enjoy a meal on a nice day. In addition, both locations regularly feature live music, creating a lively and enjoyable dining experience for guests.

Compared to the other restaurants on this list, Our Mom Eugenia offers a more upscale dining experience while still maintaining the warmth and hospitality that Greek restaurants are known for.

1.Z’s Boxing Gym (Annandale, VA)

Z’s Boxing Gym is a legit boxing gym for whatever your goals are because they have all types of classes that accommodate you based on your skill level and age. They offer programs for kids, teenagers, and adults, ranging from people with no experience at all to professional fighters. The head coach at this gym, Eric Zimmerman, is a very legit coach who has coached fighters from Team USA and was a former amateur boxer himself. The rest of the coaches are also top-level, with two of them having fought on Mongolia’s national boxing team.

This gym also has a competition team for fighters who are looking to compete in boxing matches and tournaments. They offer a free trial class, so I would really recommend at least checking this gym out no matter what level or age you are.

2.Knockout Fitness Boxing Club (Sterling, VA)

This gym is coached by a professional boxer who provides personalized attention, helps correct your form, identifies areas you need to improve, and offers valuable tips to help you progress. His experience competing professionally gives members insight into the level of dedication and skill required to compete at a high level if that is their goal.

In this gym, all skill levels and experience levels are welcome. The workouts focus on sharpening your skills, drilling the fundamentals, and making sure you get a hard workout with high-intensity conditioning. They have a key focus on getting you into top shape.

There are very knowledgeable coaches at this gym who, if your goal is to become a fighter, can help you get there. But it really is a gym for everyone, no matter what level you’re at.

3.Alexandria Boxing Club (Alexandria, VA)

Alexandria Boxing Club has been a top gym in the area since 1980, producing some of the top talent in the region and even the world. One notable example is Shakur Stevenson, who trained here in his youth and is now one of the top pound-for-pound boxers in the sport.

For this gym, I would recommend it to a different group of people than the first two gyms on this list. I would mainly recommend this gym for people who are looking to have a future in boxing at the professional or high-level amateur level. This gym’s main focus is youth fighters, especially those with aspirations of competing at a high level, with programs for ages as young as 5 years old up to 17 years old.

This gym has some of the best coaching you can find, with high-level drilling, instruction, and sparring. They do have an adult beginner boxing class and private lessons for individualized training, so if you are an adult who wants to learn how to fight or already has experience and wants to train here, you can still do that. However, if you are a kid with the goal of becoming a fighter, this is without a doubt my number one recommendation in Northern Virginia.

4.Man of War Boxing (Stafford, VA)

Man of War Boxing is located in Stafford, Virginia, which I know is a bit outside of what most people consider Northern Virginia. However, if you live near that area or are willing to make the trip, you’ll find a boxing gym where you’re guaranteed to learn real boxing, get a great workout, and, if you’re interested, have access to a variety of sparring partners who can help push you to improve.

Man of War Boxing is great for all ages, offering programs for kids as young as 5 years old all the way up to adults. They also have a women’s boxing class. The gym is home to many boxers who compete regularly and have aspirations of becoming professional fighters. Man of War is known for its great culture, experienced coaches, and strong boxing program, making it one of the most legit and well-established boxing gyms in the area.

​2. Level99 – Tysons, VA


Level99 is basically an adult playground with more than 50 games that include physical challenges, mental challenges, puzzles, and more. Another reason I think it is a great date night spot is that many of the games require teamwork, giving you the chance to work together while having fun.

It also gives you something to talk about after the games, whether it’s laughing about what happened, discussing your favorite challenges, or talking about which ones were the hardest. Level99 has its own bar and food options, but it is also located inside Tysons Corner Center, which offers a huge selection of restaurants, a movie theater, and plenty of places to walk around if you want to do something before or after your date.


3. Farm Brew LIVE – Manassas, VA


Farm Brew LIVE is a large entertainment campus that features multiple restaurants, food trucks, an outdoor stage with live music, and a spacious outdoor area with plenty of seating and lawn space.

Its most popular restaurant is The Black Sheep, which is considered expensive by many people. However, it has a great interior design and atmosphere, which is one reason why so many visitors enjoy coming to Farm Brew LIVE. The overall atmosphere of the property is excellent, especially the outdoor area, which is a great place to sit, have a conversation, and listen to live music while enjoying the evening.


4. Heroic Axe – Warrenton, VA


Heroic Axe is one of the more unique date night spots in Northern Virginia. Instead of the typical dinner date, it gives couples the chance to do something interactive and a little competitive. The main attraction is axe throwing, but the venue also features a variety of digital games and challenges that make it fun even if you have never thrown an axe before.

One reason I think Heroic Axe is a great date spot is that it gives you something to do together rather than just sitting across from each other at a restaurant. Whether you’re competing to see who can get the highest score or just laughing at each other’s throws, it naturally creates conversation and makes the date more memorable. The venue also serves food and drinks, so you can easily spend a few hours there without needing to go somewhere else. If you’re looking for a fun and different date night idea in Northern Virginia, Heroic Axe is definitely worth considering.


5. Muse Paintbar – Fairfax, VA


Muse Paintbar is one of the best date night spots in Northern Virginia for couples looking to do something creative together. The concept is simple: you sign up for a painting session, and an instructor walks everyone through the painting step by step. Even if you have no painting experience, it’s easy to follow and usually leads to a few laughs along the way.

I think it’s a great date idea because it gives you something to do together while still allowing plenty of time to talk. Muse also serves food and drinks, so you can enjoy a meal or a drink while you paint.

Another reason I recommend it is its location in the Mosaic District. Many people enjoy walking around the area before or after their date because there are plenty of shops, outdoor spaces, and things to see. If the food at Muse isn’t what you’re looking for, there are also plenty of restaurants nearby with a wide variety of options. The combination of painting, food and drinks, and everything the Mosaic District has to offer makes Muse Paintbar a great date night spot.
